The English Project is a small language school set up to help people coming to West Kent from other countries learn English. We offer English Language teaching from qualified teachers for free.

When are the lessons?

Our school is open Wednesday and Thursday evenings and Tuesday mornings. During these times we run lessons at all levels from beginners to upper intermediate.

What else do we offer?

Along with teaching and a small cafe for students, we also offer practical help with things like filling in forms, finding a job, making phone-calls etc.

When are our term dates?

We are open almost all the year but we have holidays for a few weeks at Christmas, Easter, in June/July and in October. You can download a flyer with the current dates here.

Is it really free?

For each course we charge a small cost which covers materials (a course book for you to keep and a small amount for other teaching materials). This depends upon the course but is usually £15 to £25. We also charge a deposit between £20 and £100, which you get back if you come to all the lessons. But apart from that, it’s free (even the tea, coffee and cake in our café!)

Why do we do this for free?

Our philosophy is simple – as Christians we believe that God cares about those in need and we want people who can’t afford language lessons at other schools to be able to get the help they need to live in the UK.

Who can join?

Anyone who is legally in the UK (whether with a passport or claiming asylum) can join one of our courses. In the past we have had students from more than 30 countries from all over the world. Most of our students are adults (16+) but sometimes we also have students aged 14-16.
